City MP Mark Lancaster started off his campaign against the legal loophole that allows private hire taxi firms to register in Northamptonshire, yet operate almost exclusively in Milton Keynes by raising the matter in the House of Commons with Leader of the House Harriet Harman.

Calling for a debate Mr Lancaster received a sympathetic response from the Minister who acknowledged widespread concern over similar practices across the country. Mr Lancaster has secured a 10 minute rule Bill on the 3rd March which he hopes will be the first step in closing the legal loophole which is being exploited.

Mark said “This abuse of a legal loophole is bad for Milton Keynes business and the satisfaction of customers, there needs to be a change. Milton Keynes prides itself on its excellent taxi firms, yet this reputation is being tainted by some out of town firms who simply do not have the local knowledge required to operate effectively.”
