City MP Mark Lancaster has called for greater clarity from the Government following the announcement that regional housing targets have been scrapped. Whilst welcoming the move, Mr Lancaster speaking in the House of Commons during business questions has called for greater clarity over the implications for the city and in particular the future role of Milton Keynes Partnerships.
Last month Secretary of State Eric Pickles MP wrote to Milton Keynes Council announcing that the regional strategy would be scrapped and in response the Council called on the local MP’s to ask for further details as to the implications for the city. After the debate Mark Lancaster said;
“Whilst the scrapping of regional housing targets is great for Milton Keynes we do now need to put some meat on the bones as to how exactly we move forward. I think it absolutely right that local people should get to decide how, when and where the city should expand but we also need to make sure the details such as how this decision will affect the local plan and how future expansion will be funded are in place.”
“Both Iain Stewart and I are keen to support the Council in anyway that we can to ensure a positive transition for the old central imposed targets to the new locally controlled plan.”
Mr Lancaster has followed the Leader of the House Sir George Young’s suggestion and applied for a debate.
