Mark Lancaster has been reassured about the fate of a bus route on which a rural population relies.

The city MP was contacted by residents from Ravenstone and Stoke Goldington concerned about the number 36 bus, which links the villages with Northampton, Olney and Newport Pagnell.

He wrote to operator Stagecoach who explained that Northamptonshire County Council has withdrawn its share of the funding of the service, which also serves Weston Underwood and Gayhust amongst others.

However, after contacting Milton Keynes Council, officers stated that regardless of the neighbouring council’s budget, a bus service would be maintained for residents in this area.

Mr Lancaster said: “A number of people in the villages are very concerned about the threat to this service.  I am pleased that, like me, Milton Keynes Council is committed to rural residents. I will endeavour to campaign on constituents’ behalves for a regular, reliable bus that connects them with neighbouring towns and villages.”
