Mark is going to great lengths to support one of his favourite charities

The Milton Keynes North MP has pledged to abseil down the AirKix building to help raise much-needed cash for the YMCA’s latest project.

The homeless charity recently received £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund towards its new residents’ lounge, which will provide social space, with TV, games console and pool table, as well as space for employment workshops, IT access and a laundrette.

More than £25,000 is needed to transform office space into the lounge, so people are being offered the chance to take part in the MKYMCA abseil challenge on December 4 at a cost of £25 each.

Mr Lancaster said: “I am regularly in contact with the YMCA and know how vital their work is in Milton Keynes. In these tough times, when organisations are having to tighten their belts, it is good to see projects like this continuing to flourish through effective fundraising and the goodwill of supporters. I’m more than happy to do my bit and I look forward to seeing the residents’ lounge when it is finished.”

Simon Green, MKYMCA’s housing manager, added: “Dedicated communal space in which residents can relax in the company of peers and engage on an informal basis with staff will greatly improve our ability to provide such an environment.  We encourage those who live and work in Milton Keynes to get involved in a fun and exciting event and help us to achieve a better YMCA for the young people of Milton Keynes.”
